Division Re-entry Strategy

Read our COVID-19 Division Re-entry Strategy for information about how we’re welcoming students and staff back into schools this September. We’re preparing to welcome students and staff back into schools this September.

Welcome to Sifton School!  The staff and I extend a warm welcome to all students and their families!

Sifton School is a special place to learn and grow!  We serve approximately 300 students in programs such as Pre-Kindergarten, Full-Day Kindergarten, Regular grades 1-6, and the District centre Behaviour and Learning Assistance Program.  Sifton School is an energetic, inclusive, safe and caring school!

At Sifton, one of our greatest gifts is our diverse student population.  Our students represent more than 30 cultural and language backgrounds.  We celebrate our students’ unique experiences and offer numerous English Language Learner (ELL) supports in our classrooms.  Our daily work is grounded in the important literacy skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, as well as numeracy understanding.  We offer forms of literacy and numeracy intervention for students who require additional support.

We are a proud APPLE school where we promote and practice healthy habits around nutrition, physical activity and mental health.  Each month, our school learns about different health concepts and participates in fun activities to reinforce healthy habits! In January 2020, with the generous sponsorship of Alberta Education’s School Nutrition Program and e4c, Sifton started offering daily Morning Meals and classroom fruit bowls.  Our school is gratefully partnered with many community organizations who support our students in all areas of health and learning!

At Sifton School, we value our team work with our families and community.  Let’s work together to help our students achieve and be the best that they can be!

Yours in partnership,

Shannon Mah

Principal's Message

Welcome to Sifton School! The Staff and I extend a warm welcome to all students and their parents and/or guardians. As a school, we have a diverse student population representing over 20 different language groups; accordingly, English Language Learners (ELL) comprise 55% of our student population. Our vision of Sifton School is of a school focused on 21st Century literacies, grounded in basic literacy skills of speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English, and extending to the use of technology for teaching and learning literacy. We believe that literacy is a life-long skill and is an important part of our daily learning.

Sifton School is a partner with the University of Alberta in the promotion of physical activity and nutritious eating through the APPLE Schools project. Healthy eating and physical activity contribute to a healthy lifestyle and support student learning. As an APPLESchool, we provide a school-wide snack program to our students each morning. Our student leaders, as Playground Activity Leaders (PALs), provide opportunities for students to engage in physical activities during lunch recess on selected days of the week. Teachers work with students to build essential knowledge and skills in physical education and health. We want members of our school community to make each choice a healthy choice.

We invite you to be a part of our school community. We encourage parents and guardians to participate in your child’s learning. Together, we make Sifton School a great place to be and learn.
