Instructional Focus

At Sifton, we focus on Literacy and Numeracy development. Our staff are trained to provide various types of literacy and numeracy interventions to best help our students grow in these important subject areas. One of our most impactful practices is the use of reading screeners that provide detailed information on our students’ reading skills. The reading screeners provide us with information on our students’ achievement around the Five Pillars of Reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary development, fluency, and comprehension. When reading skills are targeted well, achievement in other areas of literacy and numeracy all improve.
